Rebuilt Starters & Alternators Outcompete New Aftermarket Units

Starters and alternators have a tough job. Starter motors are high-torque motors that have the ability to turn over, or crank, an engine under varying weather and mechanical conditions. Without a correctly functioning starter motor, you cannot start a vehicle’s engine. Alternators are in motion every moment the engine is running. Alternators produce electricity that recharges the vehicle’s battery and supplies additional power to meet the vehicle’s demands.

These hard-working parts consist of many moving components - armatures, solenoids, diodes, rotors, stators, brushes, and others - that work together for the device to do its job. Over time, these components are subject to wear and tear and, even with the best care, all starters and alternators will eventually need to be rebuilt or replaced.

When you need to replace a starter or alternator on your vehicle, your first inclination might be to head to your local franchise auto parts store to buy a new unit (when replacing it yourself) or to accept whatever your auto service center puts in your vehicle without asking questions. But aside from cost-savings, there are some real advantages to choosing rebuilt over new.

For one thing, new starters and alternators are invariably more expensive than rebuilt units. Additionally, while there are some quality brands and units on the market, many new aftermarket units sold at mass-retailers are constructed with low-quality components with profit for the seller in mind, as opposed to longevity and performance for the buyer. Further, they often come with a warranty of one year or less.

By contrast, a unit that has been rebuilt at CVSA undergoes a significant teardown and inspection, and is fitted with the highest quality replacement parts. We completely disassemble, clean, and refinish all of the components and replace the worn-down components inside the unit with heavy-duty, high-quality components that are built to last. We use USA-made parts whenever possible, and some of our components are even made right here in Wisconsin.

In addition to looking and performing like brand new, you’re guaranteed it’s the right fit for your vehicle because it came off of your vehicle. We also perform any updates or improvements the original equipment (OE) manufacturer has made to subsequent parts they manufactured. Best of all, we include a two-year warranty and can provide one-hour turn around on most items.

Of course, if after a thorough inspection we determine that your unit is not suitable for rebuilding, we do carry many new starters and alternators from brands we trust and stand behind.

Whether you want to save money and do it yourself, or you take your vehicle to a repair center to be fixed, be sure to request that your starter or alternator is rebuilt by or purchased new from Chippewa Valley Starter & Alternator. We pride ourselves on our service and quality.
